Mayberry Days Family Fun and Games
There is something fun for everyone in the family to enjoy. Whether you
are a casual fan of The Andy Griffith Show or can quote every episode, you
enjoy a good game of checkers or you just want to sit on the porch, sip
sweet cider and count cars, the spirit of Mayberry takes many forms during
the festival and we've got something just for you.

MAYBERRY DAYS MAYOR'S
PROCLAMATION
Friday at 10:00 a.m. Blackmon Amphitheatre
Free
Mayberry Days is officially recognized on Friday morning
when Mount Airy's Mayor, City and County officials and other
distinguished guests gather at the Blackmon Amphitheatre to
acknowledge the importance of the festival and honor the special
guests. |

MRS. WILEY'S TEA PARTY
Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Mount
Airy Chamber of Commerce Downtown at the corner of Main St and
Moore Street
"No coffee, tea or punch, thank you." The
Chamber Chicks are hosting the social event of the festival. There will be punch and
cookies along with answers to questions about about visiting
the area (along with proper etiquette, the latest dance or even

"Discover the Loop" on the Little Blue
Choo as it chugs around Mount Airy. Take a rest in this open air
train and enjoy the cool wind in your face and see more of
American's favorite southern hometown on your ride.
$5 tickets are available at the "train station" in the AGP parking
lot, where the ride begins and ends. |

MAYBERRY DAYS PARADE
Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Main Street from
Independence Blvd to the Andy Griffith Playhouse
The parade down Main Street is the start off the biggest day of
the festival with all the Special Guests, tribute artists, marching
bands, TAGSRWC chapters, squad cars and a whole lot of fun!
Hint: The parade ends at the Andy Griffith Playhouse, but some of
the best viewing is on the north end of Main Street. |

WBMUTBB SILENT AUCTION
Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to Noon Andy
Griffith Playhouse (around the marquee sign in front or
on stage inside)
Sponsored by "Who's Been Messing Up The Bulletin Board?" TAGSRWC
Internet Chapter
Unique Mayberry items including autographed
memorabilia and handcrafted items from members of the WBMUTBB online
chapter of TAGSRWC are always a part of the auction. Stop by and see
things that are not available anywhere else and take home a
one-of-kind Mayberry
item!
Auction items are set up after the parade
ends and bidding continues until 12:00 Noon. Volunteers are
available to help throughout the auction and you must be
present at Noon to claim your high bid and purchase your item. All proceeds from this annual
service project go to the Surry Arts Council to help with the
festival. The 2012 total was
$4,162.50! |

Many fans enjoy the peace and quiet of Mayberry Days, but for those of
you who like the thrill of victory, we have events for you too!

MAYBERRY DAYS GOLF
TOURNAMENT
Thursday at 12:15 p.m. Cross Creek
Country Club $95 per golfer includes greens fees, country buffet
dinner, golf awards presentation and entertainment from the Special
Guests and tribute artists

Mayberry Days first event is at Cross Creek with the Mayberry
Deputy reviewing the rules for this "Sheriff's Choice" tournament at
12:15 p.m. The shotgun (or blue steel baby) start is at 12:30 p.m.
Hole sponsors add something special to each hole and Special Guests
and tribute artists move about the course with refreshments and
laughs. Teams compete for trophies, awards and bragging rights for
the year. As an added bonus, golfers have priority seating at the
dinner and entertainment following the tournament.
If you order online for your team, you can leave a comment with
your team name and members. Individuals or pairs are welcome to golf
and will be assigned to a team before the
tournament. |

"MAYBERRY MINUTE MEN" YOUTH TAGS TRIVIA
CONTEST
Friday at 3:30 p.m. Blackmon Amphitheatre
Hosted by the "She called me Creatster" TAGSRWC Chapter
"Daylight's precious
when you're a youngster" and so is knowing the answers to TAGS
Trivia. If there is any doubt that today's generation does not enjoy
a good television show, come out and see this contest as the younger
TAGS fans (14 yrs and Under) are "ready at a moment's notice
with the answer." To compete, purchase a $2 Trivia Fan (a great
souvenir) at the Information Station in front of the
Andy Griffith Playhouse or at the Amphitheatre right before the
event.

Hosted by the "Hearty Eatin' Men, Beautiful Delicate Women"
TAGSRWC Chapter
Get ready to challenge the best of the best
in this annual TAGS trivia contest - the "Superbowl of TAGS
Trivia"! To compete, purchase a $2 Trivia Fan at the
Information Station in front of the Andy Griffith Playhouse or at
the Amphitheatre right before the contest.
Everyone is welcome to participate with
prizes and trophies awarded to the top winners. |

"CHESTER JONES" CHECKERS
TOURNAMENT
Saturday beginning at 12 Noon Below the Andy Griffith Museum
Practice on the checkers
tables on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. then challenge
friends and family and try to beat George, Bertha or Dennis
to become the 2012 checker champion of Mayberry Days. A limited number
of spaces are available, so register at the Information Station with a $2
entry fee for a chance to win this year's trophy.
The checkers tables will be available all during the the festival for
anyone to enjoy for fun or practice. |

Horseshoe Pit behind the Andy Griffith
Playhouse
Sponsored by the "She Called Me a Creatster"
Chapter
The horseshoe pit is in a shady
spot directly behind the Andy Griffith Playhouse and all you have to
do is find it and challenge your friends to a fun game. Watch out
for Henry Bennett when you play! Horseshoes will be at the pits all
weekend or ask for them at the SAC office. |

PORK CHOP SANDWICH EATING
CONTEST

If you are feeling extra hungry plan to compete in the world famous pork chop sandwich
contest at Mayberry Days (the record is 8!). Check in with
the staff at Snappy Lunch before you order to get a copy of the
rules. Mary Dowell will officiate the event (obey all rules). For
ages 18 and over.
As Olive says, "Does my heart good to see a thin person eat."

MR. TUCKER APPLE PEELING
CONTEST
Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, 8:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Information Station at the Andy Griffith Playhouse
Remember the TAGS episode "Man in a Hurry" when Andy peels an
apple without breaking the peel? If you have a steady hand and keen
eye, you can sign up at the Information Station and get your apple
and peeler to try for the longest continuous peel during the
festival. There is no time limit, but if you start, but sure to
finish before you take a nap in the rocking chair.
Trophy awarded at the Information Station on Saturday at 4
p.m. |

PIE EATING CONTEST
Friday at 2:30 p.m. In front of the Andy Griffith
Playhouse
Still hungry after competing in the pork chop sandwich eating
contest? Come down and see how fast you can eat one of "Aunt Bee's
Crustless Cream Pies" with the fastest eaters receiving
trophies awarded by Special Guests (1st-2nd-3rd Places awarded). Allan "Floyd the
Barber" Newsome is on hand as official judge (and to make sure no
one confuses shaving cream for whipped cream).
Register (entry fee) at the Information
Station before 2:00 p.m. on Friday to compete. Two heats of
competition - "Young'uns Young'uns Young'uns", "Hungry
Buzzards." This is an exciting event for the whole family! |

GOOBER SAY "HAY BALE TOSS" AND CORN TOSS
Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Across the street from the Andy Griffith
Playhouse
"Heft" a hay bale and see how far you can toss it to compete for the
winner's trophy. |

MAYBERRY "IDLE"
Saturday at 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Blackmon
Amphitheatre
Do you want to be a star at Mayberry Days? Mayberry "Idle" is a
talent contest at a much slower pace with your chance to perform to
the crowd at the Blackmon Amphitheatre. Winners get to perform at
Colonel Tim's on Saturday night! Space is limited for performers and
sign up begins on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. at the Information Station
in front of the Andy Griffith Playhouse.
Jeff Branch a.k.a. Howard Sprague will emcee this event
with judges providing commentary and discussion between
acts.
Remember it's Mayberry Days, so "if it ain't kind, don't say
it!" |
