Art Works!
- The Historic Earle Theatre is open daily and hosts first run feature movies, the weekly WPAQ Merry-Go-Round, live concerts with internationally known bands, and weekly free old-time dance and stringed instrument lessons. We're looking forward to hosting Dailey and Vincent, Cane Mill Road, Balsam Range, and Rhonda Vincent and the Rage.
- Community Theatre continues to feature hundreds of local actors of all ages on the Andy Griffith Playhouse stage. Thousands have seen Cinderella, Mary Poppins, Disney's Frozen JR in sell out performances. Dickens' Christmas Carol, Grease: School Version, Disney's The Lion King JR, Into the Woods, and Young Frankenstein are on the 2023-24 schedule.
- Mayberry Days® featured events ranging from nationally know acts such as The Bellamy Brothers to many fan favorites including Michael Hoover's Memories of Elvis with Denise Glass as Patsy Cline, and Colonel Tim's Talent Time.
- Construction of the new Arts Center is complete and we look forward to opening the Siamese Twins Museum in the Spring.
- The Surry Arts Council received notification that we will receive funds from the state to improve and expand the Andy Griffith Playhouse lobby to accommodate both our community theatre patrons and touring professional productions and concert.
- The Andy Griffith Museum is open daily and hosted over 70,000 guests visited this past year.
- Over 58 concerts are planned for the 2024 Summer Series. Get your annual pass now!
- Several groups meet weekly or monthly at SAC venues including the Surry Baskets Makers, the Mount Airy Photo Club, Mariachi dancers, and the Golden Notes.
- Youth classes and workshops continue weekly with over 100 dancers taking classes from Madeline Matanick, Tyler Matanick, and Candace Noah. Visual arts and other classes and workshops are ongoing. Darris Flowers and Jim Vipperman host weekly classes at the Earle. Watch for new LatinX guitar lessons in January! Acting workshops are ongoing with Tyler Matanick and Robert Parks, and Tyler also teaches weekly voice lessons.
- The Arts Ball and other earmarked grants and donations provide school programming with over 15,000 student contacts annually. The United Fund of Surry provides funds enabling the Surry Arts Council to reach over 200 special friends participants each month with crafts and line dances classes.
